2. ABSTRACTS OF YEAR 2003 ATIP TECHNOLOGY REPORTS

ATIP03.061: Japan's National Research Grid Initiative (NAREGI)

ABSTRACT: Japan's National Research Grid Initiative (NAREGI), a new project emphasizing grids for compute intensive applications, is summarized in the present report. This project is one of two new large existing grid projects in Japan, Business Grid being the other.

ATIP03.062: Nanoscience Research at RIKEN

ABSTRACT: RIKEN is one of the premier research institutions in Japan. Its budget for research in fiscal year 2003 will be over US$900M. RIKEN officially launched its Nanoscience Research Program in 2002. In the present report, an overview of RIKEN's structure and scope of work is provided. The initially designated 18 nanoscience projects are summarized and several are discussed in detail.
